ANDREWS GOVERNMENT DROPS LAWSUIT AGAINST CFMEU

The Andrews Labor Government will no longer pursue penalties against the CFMEU in the Supreme Court over the alleged secondary boycott against Boral. This follows Boral’s settlement with the CFMEU last week, where the CFMEU agreed to pay up to $9 million in damages and legal costs.

The decision means that the Victorian government potentially forfeits more than $1 million in penalties against the CFMEU.

Master Builders strongly supports efforts to ensure that the rule of law applies in the construction industry and that those who break the law are held accountable for their actions. As such, the Victorian Government’s decision is disappointing.
